ABOUT US

A Brief History

In 1960, the Industrial Development Center (Manila) and the International Cooperation Administration (now Agency for International Development of the U.S. State Department) initiated the organization of a team of deans of business schools in the Philippines.  Officially designated as the Philippine Schools of Management and Business Administration Study Team, the group left in 1961 for an observation tour covering twelve universities and eleven corporations and foundations concerned with business education in the United States.

The team focused mainly on curriculum development, school-industry relations, general school administration, and faculty qualifications and relations.

Upon its return, the group invited representatives from other business schools and formed an Executive Committee which was expanded and formalized into the Philippine Association of Collegiate Schools of Business or PACSB.  The PACSB, with Dr. Santiago F. dela Cruz as its first president, was formally inaugurated on July 21, 1962.

Since then PACSB has found itself involved in activities relating to:  (1)  conducting of seminars for faculty development,  (2) providing consultancy and other services to member schools, (3) spearheading curriculum changes and revisions and upgrading rules and standards for business education, (4) conducting dialogues with government agencies (DECS, now CHED, and PRC) (5) forging linkages with business and industry and other associations, agencies and institutions concerned with business education, (6)  scholarship and research grants for faculty members of business schools, (7) student involvement in surveys monitoring performance of government agencies, and (8) sponsoring annual conferences/seminars/webinars for business schools nationwide.

Currently PACSB maintains close working relationship with the Technical Panel for Business and industry of the CHED, the Bureau of Internal Revenue and the Civil Service Commission, Financial Executives Institute of the Philippines, Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Philippine Marketing Association, Bankers Association of the Philippines, Philippine Council for Management, Junior Achievement of the Philippines, Inc., Private Education Assistance Committee, Philippine Stock Exchange and the International Federation for Business Education.
