Roxas City, Capiz – Capiz State University (CAPSU) hosted a seminar last March 12, 2025 organized by the Philippine Association of Colleges and Schools of Business (PACSB) on the Social Entrepreneurship Integration in Academic Institution. This was made possible through partnerships with Private Education Assistance Committee (PEAC), Wadhwani Foundation and Rex Bookstore.

The event brought together business educators from different regions to explore how entrepreneurship can serve as a catalyst for meaningful societal change through higher education. Dr. Raul C. Alvarez Jr., CHEDRO VI Director emphasized on the importance of integrating social entrepreneurship in the quest for quality business education as he said, “The role of business is not only limited to profit generation but also on generating value to society”.

Dr. Efren L. Linan, the University President of Capiz State University also emphasized on realization of the innovation ecosystem where different sectors of the society help each other in the pursuit of a healthy economy.

Dr. Karl P. Campos, an educator from the University of Southern Philippines, set the tone with his comprehensive discussion on “Social Entrepreneurship Integration in Academic Institutions.” He emphasized the role of educational institutions in shaping values-driven entrepreneurs who prioritize not only profit but also people and the planet. Dr. Campos outlined frameworks and best practices for weaving social impact thinking into business and management curricula. His talk highlighted strategies for integrating purpose-driven innovation into academic programs to address real-world challenges through education.

Complementing the academic discussion, Mr. Arjay B. Borja, a rising young entrepreneur, shared his compelling journey through the creation and growth of OG Kopi, a coffee venture rooted in community empowerment. Borja’s story underscored how social entrepreneurship can emerge from authentic, grassroots efforts and lead to sustainable economic development while preserving culture and identity.

Adding a global dimension to the seminar, Mr. Cris Delgado of the Whawani Foundation introduced participants to Wadhwani Foundation’s Ignite 5.0, an AI-enabled entrepreneurship platform designed to democratize entrepreneurial opportunities across the Global South. Delgado discussed how technology and innovation can scale access to resources, mentorship, and training for aspiring entrepreneurs from underserved regions, effectively removing traditional barriers to entry.
